FAQ

Q: What are herps/herpers/herping?
A: A "herp" is a reptile or amphibian. Herpers are people who like herps. Although when I say "herper" I typically mean a "field herper" which is someone who looks for herps in the wild. "Herping" can mean a couple of different things, but when I say it I mean "field herping" (as in looking for herps in the field). I try not to use the terms herp, herping, and herper too much because the average person seems to think I am talking about "herpes" which is a whole other thing entirely. I originally thought about saying this was a blog for women who like herps, but then I realized the average person would think I was talking about women who like the venereal disease, so I decided against it :)

He may look like he could give you those warts...but he won't. I promise.

Q: Can I do a guest post? I have an [insert animal here] as a pet and I would love to do a Species Spotlight!
A: Sure! If you ever want to do a guest post, just send me a message.

Q: Why do you have posts on "cooking"?
A: When I first started this blog, it was a married blog. It was a jumble of unfocused stuff about my life. Then I realized pretty much everything interesting that happens in my life has to do with animals. And I am a woman (I knew that one already, thank goodness). So I decided to do a blog for women who like animals (specifically those that are scaly or slimy).

No, I was not posting recipes for ways to cook a salamander. Ewww!

Q: I am a dude and I like your blog...
A: Great! A lot of the things I write are pretty gender-neutral, so it is totally awesome if you like Smiley Salamanders. My ultimate goal was to create a blog about herps that was appealing to women. But if men like it too, then I am even happier :)

Q: I like animals...but [insert specific animal here] freak me out.
A: That is totally fine! I am terrified of wasps, so I understand that some critters can just freak people out. If you can't stand snakes, but you like to hear about turtles and salamanders, then feel free to skip the stuff about my slithering friends. To those of you that like your animals fluffy/feathered, I do like to focus on herps. However, I do post stuff on mammals (especially my cat).
